Request bookingFew places in Europe feel as ancient and alive as Perucica. This UNESCO-protected primeval forest covers over 1,434 hectares of Sutjeska National Park and shelters some of the continent's oldest trees, towering beech and spruce giants that have stood for centuries. Walking beneath their canopy, with filtered light cutting through the mist and the sound of water echoing off canyon walls, is an experience that stays with you long after you leave. The forest floor is a world of its own-deep green moss, fallen giants returning to the earth, wild flora that thrives undisturbed. Perucica is not a managed trail system. It is a living, breathing relic of what all European forests once looked like.

The Perucica primeval forest hike is suitable for most fitness levels, but the terrain is natural and unmanaged. Please read the requirements below before booking. Moderate fitness level required - the full hike is approximately 3.5–4 hours of walking Sturdy hiking boots strongly recommended-terrain is uneven, rooted and often wet Suitable for ages 10 and above No technical climbing skills required The forest is a strictly protected UNESCO zone - visitors must stay on marked paths at all times Weather in the canyon changes quickly - bring a light waterproof layer Participants should inform guides of any medical conditions or physical limitations before departure

The Perucica forest hike is consistently rated as one of the top nature experiences in the Western Balkans - not because it's extreme, but because it's irreplaceable. You are walking through a forest that has existed for thousands of years, completely unchanged. The biodiversity here - over 170 species of trees and plants, brown bears, wolves, chamois and eagles - exists nowhere else in this form outside of a few protected patches across Eastern Europe. This hike is ideal for nature lovers, photographers, families with older children, and anyone who wants to experience Bosnia and Herzegovina beyond its rivers and mountains. It pairs perfectly with a rafting day on Tara River for a complete Sutjeska adventure. "This arrangement can also be extended or combined with our other outdoor activities - rafting, canyoning, or a multi-day Sutjeska expedition."

Incredible place! The staff is so welcoming and professional. Located on Maglić mountain, it offers cozy pods and stunning views. Canyoning was a safe, thrilling adventure. Great food and cold beer at the end made it perfect. Highly recommend this mountain paradise for all!
Visiting this place was an incredible experience. We came for Hrčavka Canyon, and Branko made it all possible. He provided us with key info with true passion and knowledge. He understands the mountain spirit. I would highly recommend him for any outdoor activity. Thank you!
This place left us speechless! Cozy cabins with amazing views and comfy beds. The owners paid attention to every detail: clean showers, hammocks, and warm water. Food is delicious—the ajvar is a must try! Family-owned and super friendly, especially Maja. We’ll be back soon!
