Most rafting trips on Tara River give you a single day and 18 kilometres of canyon. The Full Canyon expedition gives you everything else. Launching from the iconic Djurdjevica Tara Bridge, this two-day journey takes you deep into the sections of the Tara River Canyon that no road reaches and no day-tripper ever sees - the hidden heart of the deepest canyon in Europe. Over two days on the water you will pass beneath towering canyon walls that block out the sky, stand under magical waterfalls, explore river caves with ice-cold underground lakes, and spend a night camped on the riverbank at Radovan Luka with no electricity, no wifi and nothing but the sounds of the canyon around you. The expedition finishes at the mouth of the Tara River where it meets the Piva River to form the Drina, a finish line worthy of everything that came before it.

Safety & Requirements for the Tara Full Canyon Expedition

The Tara Full Canyon expedition is suitable for adults and active participants in good physical condition. The two days on the water cover the full navigable length of the Tara River Canyon, which is significantly more demanding in duration than a standard single-day rafting tour. All rafting equipment is provided, including helmet, life jacket, neoprene suit, neoprene boots and paddle. A full safety briefing covering rowing techniques, rapid navigation and river safety is conducted before entering the water on day two. Licensed and experienced river guides lead the group throughout both days on the water. The river class ranges from 2 to 4 depending on water levels and season, with the most demanding rapids encountered toward the end of the route on day three. Overnight accommodation is provided at riverside Camp Radovan Luka, a remote canyon camp with no electricity or wifi connection. A generator runs for two hours during dinner. Participants should be comfortable with basic outdoor camping conditions. The full canyon expedition runs from late spring through early autumn, subject to water levels. Participants must provide height, weight and shoe size in advance for equipment fitting. Please inform your guide of any medical conditions or physical limitations before departure.

What Makes the Tara Full Canyon Expedition Different

A standard Tara rafting day is an incredible experience. The Full Canyon expedition is an entirely different journey. The deeper you travel into the canyon, the more the outside world disappears. By the second day, surrounded by vertical canyon walls, ancient forest and the sound of water echoing off rock, it becomes genuinely difficult to believe that roads and cities exist anywhere on the planet. The most powerful moment comes on day two, reaching the Bajlovic Waterfall at the deepest point of the entire canyon. Behind the waterfall, a cave shelters an ice-cold underground lake that has never seen sunlight. Few rafting routes anywhere in the world deliver a moment quite like that. This is not just a rafting trip. It is a two-day immersion into one of Europe's last truly untouched wild places.
